During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Maker is being ported to the Nintendo 3DS on December second of this year. The 3DS version of the game is essentially the same as it’s Wii U predecessor with a few tweaks here and there. For example, the 3DS version of the game features medal challenges for each of the one hundred sample courses. These challenges can range from collecting every coin in a given course to defeating every enemy before reaching the flagpole. The 3DS version also allows you to share your courses over wireless and via Streetpass.
As for the level creation itself, it is the exact same as on the Wii U with the exception of mystery mushrooms and Mario costumes which will stay exclusive to the Wii U version. Another feature absent from the 3DS version of the game is the ability to upload your courses online. All of the online courses played in the course world and 100 Mario challenge are just going to be courses made on the Wii U version of the game. You are also not able to search by course ID, but this may not be a problem if you are able to simply send levels to your 3DS via the bookmark site. I admire how Nintendo is making Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo 3DS without making Wii U owners feel like they have an inferior version.
Speaking of Super Mario Maker, if you want to try out some of my levels, click the link below to go to my page on the bookmark site. I have a ton of great levels down there such as a remake of Spiral Mountain from Banjo Kazooie, so why not check it out?
